October 15 - 19, 2012

***Ancestor "Parent Interview" is to be completed and returned on THURSDAY, October 18th.  Students will share interesting facts about their ancestors that day!

***CHOIR STUDENTS!  Second grade choir will meet Wednesday mornings.   


***COOKIE DOUGH KICKOFF..... All money is due October 19th. Please note that this is the ONLY school planned fundraiser this year.

*Shaved Ice will be October 17th.  Please send exact change - $1.50.

*Coosada Costume Parade is going to be on Friday, October 26th.  You will receive a letter providing specific information soon!

Student of the Week:  Jayden

LESSONS FOR THIS WEEK:


Math: We will  fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies, learn about "fact families," and identify missing addends.  Students are required to know facts with sums of 10.

Reading:  Story for this week is "Ronald Morgan Goes to Bat."  Read this story at home with an adult every night.

Spelling: Students will practice new words every night!  Parents, please give a practice spelling test on Thursday night.

Grammar: We will learn about proper nouns that name a specific person, place, thing, or animal.

Social Science:  Students will learn about family members, or "ancestors." We want to talk about difficulties our ancestors may have faced, and plan to watch Reading Rainbow, "Watch the Stars Come Out" (a story about Ellis Island).

****Ancestor "Parent Interview" is due Thursday, October 18th.  We will share interesting facts on that day. (Daily Grade)
