News for Parents!

We still have six students who have not sent $5.00 to pay for Apple Binders.  Please send that money so it may be credited to our class account.

**READING/SPELLING  Our story this week is “Tara and Tiree, Fearless Friends."  We will read this story, as well as other stories and poetry, to reinforce the skill for this week.  Read the story at home this week.  See the "Homework" letter for this week.  Please practice Spelling words AND SENTENCES every night at home! We will check words at school daily.  (The only night we do not write Spelling words is Wednesday night... That is up to parents!) Spelling test will be on FRIDAY.

**There are two parts to doing homework: Doing the work at home, and returning it in the homework pocket of your apple binder. 
 
**LANGUAGE/HANDWRITING
We have learned that sentences MUST have a capital letter at the beginning and correct punctuation at the end.  We will learn about context clues and will review collective nouns.  These nouns name "groups" of people, things, and animals.  For example:  a library of books, a herd of cow, a gaggle of geese, and a school of fish.  Students are learning to use their best handwriting. We will write our first and last name and the date on our papers. I am so proud of your effort!

 

 **MATH
Mountain Math, Addition Facts. We are focusing on comparing numbers in the 100's, 10's, and 1's.  We will use greater than, less than, and equal to "signs."  **Use addition flash cards, games and computer activities to reinforce addition facts. 
 


**SOCIAL SCIENCE
Students are learning about the geographical makeup of our world.  Students will make a "Geography" flip book in class with definitions and illustrations.

We will check words at school daily.  (The only night we do not write Spelling words is Wednesday night... That is up to parents!) Spelling test will be on FRIDAY.

All children need supplies, including zip bags, headphones, and folders when you can find them.  Please do not give up.  We must have folders to stay organized.

Please read your weekly "Homework Schedule" page.  Students must follow this plan all week and complete assigned homework activities.

We had a fantastic first week!  I love having your child in our class.  We are a "family" and are learning to:  Respect Others, Respect Ourselves, and Respect Property :)

Wow... This week has already been pretty hectic.  A few things for you to know:
*Parents, please send all paperwork and supplies by Wednesday!  I need all of the pertinent forms you took home for open house or when your child enrolled and came to our room. 
*Your child brought home a blue Homeroom letter explaining details about homework and reading passages.  PLEASE do not lose this.

NEWS FOR PARENTS! 

OPEN HOUSE will be on Thursday, August 6th.  You may choose one of two times to come meet with me and get lots of great information about our year!  Come at either 1:00 to 2:00, or from 5:00 to 6:00.  You will get a copy of my PowerPoint to take home and keep for future reference.
