October 1 - 5, 2012

IT'S OCTOBER.....FALL IS HERE!

***For parents who have sent letters asking, please see below under "Lessons for This Week."  You will see that it says we will NOT have a regular reading story or test this week, and we will NOT have regular spelling words this week.  We are completing Unit One Testing.

***CHOIR STUDENTS!  Second grade choir will meet Wednesday mornings.  If your child has missed any choir practices, you should have received a letter last Friday.  Please make sure to attend every Wednesday morning!

***Don't forget $5.00 for Accelerated Reading!   In order to continue using this program, our library is asking you to help.  Please send this week.


*Bookfair is this week, October 1 - 5th

*There is still time to join PTO!!! We need YOU. Membership is $10.00.

*Shaved Ice will be October 3rd.  Please send exact change - $1.50.

*READ FOR THE RECORD is Thursday, October 4th. The "reader" for our blue pod is Mr. Lee Jackson.  Thank you, Mr. Jackson!

*Our next GOTCHA party is Friday, October 12th.  Students must have FIVE GOTCHAS to attend this party.

*Coosada Costume Parade is going to be on Friday, October 26th.  You will receive a letter providing specific information soon!

STUDENT OF THE WEEK: Trinity



Lessons for this Week:


Math: We will review place value standards and complete the Standards County Test, Place Value Post Test, and Addition/Subtraction Pre-Test. Students will continue to know all sums of two one-digit numbers from memory. A variety of strategies will be used to add and subtract.  

Reading:  Unit One Test is this week.  We will test comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, and assess writing skills.  Along with the Unit test, our classes will enjoy studying Johnny Appleseed.

Spelling: Students will review spelling words from the past Unit.  There will be no regular spelling words or test on Friday.

Grammar: We will review and complete Unit One Language Test and Writing Assessment.

Social Science:  Students will begin the study of Landforms and Bodies of Water.  We will create a Geography Dictionary "flip book."
