September 1 - 5, 2014

NEWS FOR PARENTS:

LABOR DAY IS MONDAY!   Enjoy some time together with your family :)


You will receive a letter with your appointed time for Parent Day, which is on Tuesday, September 8th.  Remember to be on time, as our schedule will be very tight.  Also make certain to let me know if you are not able to keep your appointment.  I'm looking forward to meeting with every parent!


Our PE Department will be selling JUICE FLAVORED shaved ice this year.  The scheduled dates are Tuesday, September 16, and Tuesday, September 30.  Please send $1.50 CASH at least two days ahead.  Make SURE you send exact change in an envelope or zip bag with your child's name and homeroom teacher clearly identified. The money raised will be used to purchase additional PE and playground equipment.  Thank you so much!

Remember to put your child’s name, phone number, “E. Boyer” and lunch number on checks. 

Put ALL MONEY in a zip bag or envelope telling what it is for.  Children do not remember.

 
***Don't forget to send $3.00 for your Apple Binder AND $6.00 for class shirt!   We have several students left who need to pay for these.  Please send this immediately! :)

**STUDENT OF THE WEEK:  Anna

**READING/SPELLING  Our story this week is “Henry and Mudge."  We will read this story, as well as other stories and poetry, to reinforce the skill for this week : Character and Setting.
 
Please write Spelling words three times each every night at home! We will check words at school daily.  Phonics: Consonant Blends


**There are two parts to doing homework: Doing the work at home, and returning it in the homework pocket of your apple binder. Spelling test will be on FRIDAY.



**LANGUAGE/HANDWRITING
We will learn to identify exclamatory and imperative sentences this week. (Exclamations and Commands). Students are learning to use their best handwriting. We will write our first and last name and the date on our papers. I am so proud of your effort!
 

**MATH
We are learning about place value (ones, tens, hundreds place) as well as standard and expanded forms.  Addition fact drills begin this week! ** Use addition flash cards, games and computer activities to reinforce addition facts.



**SOCIAL SCIENCE
We will learn about our own communities this week, including your address, city, state, and neighboring counties.

**NEWS FOR PARENTS
Parents!  VERY important message: Ms. Sanders has asked that all parents pull up at car riders and let your child out to walk to class.  Children must be inside the classroom before 7:45 a.m.  Juice and snack money is finished and ready to send up at 7:45 before announcements.

Please put your child's new lunch number on his or her bookbag.  You may write this with a permanent marker.  Many in our class already have numbers memorized! Great job!

**We had our "GOTCHA" Kick-Off last Friday afternoon~~~Students earn GOTCHAS by being "caught" doing the right thing.  You must have five GOTCHAS to attend the very first party!

**LANGUAGE/HANDWRITING
We will learn to identify declarative and interrogative sentences this week. (Statements and Questions). Students are learning to use their best handwriting. We will write our first and last name and the date on our papers. I am so proud of your effort!
 

**MATH
We are continuing to learn about making "tens" and odd/even numbers.  We will begin studying place value next.  Addition fact drills begin this week! ** Use addition flash cards, games and computer activities to reinforce addition facts.



**SOCIAL SCIENCE
We will learn about urban, suburban, and rural communities, and how they are the same/different.  Students will create a tri-fold pamphlet demonstrating understanding of these three areas.
