**STUDENT OF THE WEEK:  Kayla

*READING/SPELLING  Our story this week is "Johnny Appleseed." We are learning to identify realism and fantasy details in a story.  I believe students will really enjoy some Johnny Appleseed activities!  Reading "Daily Grade #5" will be on Thursday. Spelling words include "consonant digraphs."  These are words that begin or end with 2 or 3 consonants that blend to make one sound. Spelling Test will be on Friday.

Please write Spelling words three times each every night at home! We will check words at school daily.  I HIGHLY recommend that parents give their children a practice test every Thursday night. Remember: Words from LAST week will be included in this week's dictation sentences.

**There are two parts to doing homework: Doing the work at home, and returning it in the homework pocket of your Apple Binder.

**LANGUAGE/HANDWRITING
We are continuing to practice making good sentences.  We are learning about four types of sentences:  declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory.  Students are learning a new language skill this week~~~"Collective nouns" name groups of people, places, things, and animals.  Examples of these would be a flock of geese or a school of fish.  Language Test will be on Friday.  **Students must remember that handwriting is very important.

**MATH
We will studying "Odd/Even" numbers and skip-counting.  Use addition flash cards, games and computer activities to reinforce addition facts.  I encourage students to play computer games at home on www.abcya.com.

**SOCIAL SCIENCE
Our study of landforms and bodies of water continues... Look at our "Geography Dictionaries" on the wall when you come for Parent Day!
