NEWS FOR PARENTS~~~

**Make sure to read my "Letter to Parents" in your child's apple binder today**

Below are two important messages!

#1...Please place quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies on a table.  Have your child put change in order from greatest to least, then count by "adding on."  You have received three classwork pages to refer to in case you want to know how we are teaching this skill.

#2...Continue to practice telling time to the minute using an analog clock (with hands).  Students must be able to tell time accurately.

Students should be reading AR books at home every night!

SPELLING:

We will practice words every morning for early work.  Students will need to write words three times nightly.  On Thursday, parents can give a "practice test!"

**Remember: Dictation sentences always include words from the previous week's test!

GRAMMAR:  We are learning about adjectives-- words that describe nouns--- for the next three weeks.  Adjectives make our writing more colorful and interesting!

MATH:  Our class will continue counting money.  Practice counting quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies.  After counting money, we will begin learning about fractions---parts of a whole.

**ALSO, remember to work hard on addition and subtraction facts.  Subtraction fact drill, 3 minutes, is for a grade.  Addition fact drill, 5 minutes and 100 problems, is for practice this nine weeks.  Use flash cards, CD's with music, games, etc., to learn your facts well!

SOCIAL SCIENCE: We will focus on landforms and bodies of water.
