Newsletter --- October 25 - 29, 2010
This is RED RIBBON WEEK! Check the daily activities sent home to you on Friday. We will say NO to Drugs!!
Do not forget about our Costume Parade on Friday morning :^)
Parents, please send requested treats for our Special Snack on Friday,
October 29th. **IMPORTANT! I sent notes to a few parents... not everyone received a note for this snack. I will ask others for the next time. Of course, students may bring a little goodie bag for friends, if desired.
Student of the Week: Maria Cano-Torres
**READING/SPELLING ---- Practice Spelling words every night. Absolutely NO capitalization unless it is at the beginning of a sentence. These are 5 points each. Dictation sentences must be written correctly, too.
Day Four - Monday: Selection Test online and written questions. Students must write complete sentences.
Day Five - Tuesday - Spelling and Language tests.
Day One - Wednesday - New story, "A Turkey for Thanksgiving." Family Times and Spelling pre-test are in the binder.
Day Two - Thursday - Read story at home and practice Spelling words--- Every night!!
Day Three - Friday - Continue to read story with an adult at home.
**LANGUAGE/HANDWRITING
We are learning about singular, plural, and unusual plural nouns, as well as nouns that show possession.
**MATH
This week students will study place value, number words, word problems, and use mental math to add tens and ones. There will be two basic knowledge tests this week.
Students are now practicing subtraction facts each day. Daily timed drill will be 20 problems in one minute.
**Fact drill that counts for a grade this nine weeks is 100 addition facts, 5 minutes. Again, the best out of nine tests will be counted.
**SOCIAL SCIENCE
We are study "Sound" this week, and will learn about the inner, middle, and outer parts of the ear. Students will complete a Sound Survey at school. On Friday, we will talk about the importance of being a good citizen and voting!
